Day 8
Up before the sparrows (do not wake the dragon!) and headed off to The Tip. Climbed Mt Everest (looked like it to me. Lol) and on the other side was the little sign that marks the top of Australia! There was a bus of grey nomads that pulled in behind us and I thought if they can do it so can I! Little did I know there was a cheat track along the beach! The view at the top of the hill is amazing. We took the mandatory photos. Then proceeded on the easy track back to car park. Claire, Donna, Tom and I were in front. We came to the last bit of rocks which had green mossy stuff and grey slimy mud on them. Of course what would be a trip without me going over. Arse-over-tit-at-the-tip!! Was hilarious. As I tried to get up my feet kept slipping. I was on all fours trying to get up and slipping and sliding. Claire tried to help in amongst laughing then for her own safety let go and donna just stood back away! 😂😂😂😂. Eventually got up and did the walk along the beach back to cars. We pulled into an ambandoned Resort called Pinjinka. Someone had built this gorgeous resort and the govt bought it for $100 million. Handed it over to the local indigenous to run. Some sort of dispute arose and they walked away from it after a couple of months (guests still in there!!) so it still stands today after much looting and destruction. From what I've read, a developer bought it with the view to getting it up and running, but is now trying to sell it for $2mil. Such a waste of taxpayer funds and revenue which could of been gained with it running.
We the drove to Somerset beach. Checked out the pearl divers graves and then Karl wanted to show us some caves. Unfortunately the tide was in and was quite a difficult track to go on. I turned back and so did Tom and Donna not long after. Yogi took some photos for me.
We then drove along 4 other beaches. Was extremely windy along these beaches so we didn't stop for lunch. Beautiful though.
When we left the beaches we stopped at the Croc Tent and bought some souvenirs. Yogi and I decided to go back to Bamaga and get some fuel for the generator. Made some calls and went home. Karl, Greg and John went for a helicopter flight and we'll do ours either tues or Wednesday morn.
The bar was having stone fired pizzas for tea so we enjoyed having the night off. Came back and into bed by 9. Great day!!!
