Limestone Gorge - Lake Argyle

Image
Well the 24th June will go down as the worst day so far. We left limestone gorge (back over the Hold-onto-ya-boobs track) and then back into Timber ck where we had lunch and Donsy bought the ingredients to make pizza for tea. Fuelled up then filled out water tanks and on the road again. Crossed the bridge out of town and we were following Karl and Yoges put the door down. Karl calls on two way and says 'oncoming' as the blue and red lights flashed. $350 fine later and back on the road. Karl had pulled over while we chatted to the nice policeman and called Jake. Back on the road and Karl was behind us. Nearly at the border and Karl calls on two way to say 'I think you've got smoke coming out of your camper mate' FAR OUT!!! Pull over. Tyre is on a lean smell of burning rubber is rank. They jacked the camper up thinking a bearing had gone only to discover a bolt in the suspension had broke off and bent another bolt. LUCKILY Yoges had a piece of windmill rod th...

Jasper gorge to limestone gorge

Image
We left our lovely little camp at Jasper gorge and decided to head towards Bulita Homestead. The drive was pretty non- descript but the weather beautiful and warm. When we got to the campground at Bulita we pretty much turned our noses up and thought there's got to be something better. So we had a look around at the homestead (which was really just a cottage), read the stories and after speaking to the ranger decided to go to Limestone Gorge to camp. The roads are extremely dusty and in surprisingly nothing in the back of the ute, but the cutlery draw was terrible. I had the bright idea of wrapping the cutlery tray in glad wrap to stop them dancing around in the drawer and getting in underneath. - IT WORKED! The boab trees are amazing, growing out of the rocks and cliff faces. The little creeks are lined with pandanus palms and the bird life prolific. The drive into the campground was very 'how-ya-goin'! With sports bras highly recommended We drove past the limeston...

We had another long day on Wednesday 22nd. Left the gravel pit and headed towards Gregory Nat Park. Ended up on the Buchanen Highway at Top Springs and paid $2.00/ltr for fuel. The Buchanen hwy is gravel and very dusty and some spots abut 'how ya goin'! We camped the night at Jasper gorge and listened to QLD thrash NSW again!!! Very crackly radio reception. Had beautiful hot showers under the stars with our hot shower yogi holds it for me and I hold it for him. - very bonding. lol. Yoges got the water out of the creek whilst Donna and I crock spotted. Karl assured us there were no crocs) even though there was a sign!!! Heading to Bulita homestead in Gregory Nat park. We have to find service to ring Meaghan for her Bday!!! 18!!! Wow

Camooweal - gravel pit

> We all woke up late (except camp rooster Karl) the days are longer up here and the sun rose later. Got out the shorts and t-shirts for first time! Glad we're not home as I believe it's freezing. > > Left camp ground on the Georgina river just outside Camooweal at about 10.30. Our campers were covered in a really heavy dew. > > Drove to Barkly Homestead and made our lunch. Fuel $1.78/ltr so we filled up with our own fuel. Yogi discovered one of our batteries in camper was shaking loose so they did some macgyver work on it. > > Travelled over Barkly Tableland and there is absolutely NOTHING to see. So a day of reading and playing games on iPad. > > Stopped briefly at the Three Ways for a pee stop and ran into a couple who were off to Alice Springs to hosts indigenous camps for Indigenous boarding school kids. After I got in the car, I was telling yoges and turned out he went to school with the bloke. His name was Waverley Stanley. ...

Cloncurry to Mt Isa

Image
The country is so green around Cloncurry and Mt Isa. The Cloncurry River was full. I just love the rocky country and we were fascinated by the church on the outskirts of Mt Isa way up on the top of a rocky hill. We fuelled up again in Mt Isa and I then had to shop for a battery charger at Harvey Norman. (Mine not charging the camera batteries which is handy - Not!!) We left Mt Isa at about 4pm and hoped to make Camooweal. We did make Camooweal before dark. A bonus is the sun sets later here than at home. So we are camping on the banks of the Georgina River which is covered in flowering water lilies. Tomorrow we hope to go to Barkly Homestead for an early lunch and make a decision when we get there as the roads are still iffy after the rain.
