Adels to Karumba

Today we set off for Karumba. We stopped at Normanton and had some lunch at the Purple Pub. Boys had a massive burger each and Sue-Ellen and I shared a seafood basket. We then stopped at the big Croc monument. Wow. Wouldn't like to come across that animal. Just massive. We then drove onto our caravan park at Karumba Point. Absolutely packed. We've got good sited right opposite the ammenities and pool and nearby the cafe and office. Us girls did some washing and I couldn't wait to have a shower and wash my hair. Was like straw. We've decided our hairdos are 'Natures Way by the Carpentaria branch'!  Tomorrow is a test day and we are going on the Croc and Crab tour on Thursday morning. We found out today that the Saxby Roundup has been postponed as there is big rain forecasted.  -- Regards Elisha

Lawn hill adels grove

Today we woke up, had a slow morning and went for a drive to Lawn Hill. We are doing a boat ride down the gorge tomorrow morning. The boys went for a walk to the gorge, but as I had done it a few years back, I waited back at the water.  We came back to camp at lunch time and the boys went for a swim after lunch and Sue-Ellen and I went for a nanna.  We woke up about 3 and then we went for a swim in extremely invigorating water. Was cold but worth it.  I had cooked a beef stew in the thermos cooker so tea didn't have to be cooked. We ate that and the boys and Sue-Ellen are going up to the cafe to watch State of Origin.  Up early tomorrow to pack up and go for boat ride then come back and grab our vans and head to Leichhardt Falls for a bush camp tomorrow night.  -- Regards Elisha

Day 4 - adels Grove

We didn't make Adels on the day we were supposed to and the reviews on WikiCamps had us quite afraid that we would be disappointed.  The drive in is so diverse - I could see that Dorothy Mckeller could of been on this drive when she wrote 'My Country'!   We arrived at Adels at lunch time and Selina the lady at reception was lovely.  After MUCH deliberation we found a nice spot that we both could fit into. We unpacked and had some Lunch.  By 3pm we were set up and the boys went for a swim and us girls went for a 'Nanna'.  We had a drink and went for a wander down to look at the water then came back and started a fire. Just a beautiful spot. Once again Adels has not disappointed.  -- Regards Elisha

Day 3

Image
Last night we bush camped at the turn off of Julia ck and Cloncurry in a gravel pit. Was nice and quiet. Our shower was only producing cold water so I had a shower in the Herberts van - bloody beautiful!  We woke up and started in the road to our next destination of Adels Grove. We stopped in Mcinlay at the Walkabout ck hotel, ran into Helen Houlder and her husband Robert. The boys had a beer and Sue-Ellen and I had a coffee. We were disappointed that Hoges truck was not out the front (from the Crocodile Dundee movie) apparently it's being repaired as it had become a public liability issue.  We then drove onto Mt Isa and got some supplies and left later than we would of liked.  I tried to ring Adels from 3pm to let them know we were running behind. I rang about 8 times and no answer and message bank is full!!! WTH? WikiCamps reviews are not looking good for Adels. Looking like it has been run down terribly in last few years. Apparently there is a $70 bond on boom gate and it's

Day 2 Longreach to Winton

We had a slow morning in Longreach and did some business. Yoges paid for his 2nd haircut in 26 years. We travelled to Winton and had a look at the new Matilda Centre. The last time Yoges and I came through Winton was in 2015 a day after the old one burnt down. Wow what a transformation now. After a few hours in Winton and Sue-Ellen and I drooled over the Opal jewellery we've hit the road again at 4pm and will drive for about an hour or so and look for a bush camp.  Regards Elisha

Longreach - Day 1

Longreach day 1  So we left home at 5.30 and Herberts were waiting for us - they don't understand 'pedler time' yet.  We had a 12 hour drive to Longreach. The country is looking amazing!!! Lots of grass and so very green! It's lovely to see all the creeks, rivers and waterholes all full.  David is NOT a good role model for Yoges as yoges dragged out the thongs and socks after a while - just like David.  We've arrived at Longreach at about 5.45 and have settled in well  so grateful for the Ensuite drive through sites   Off to Winton to the Matilda centre tomorrow  -- Regards Elisha
