Days 13 & 14

Image
We travelled from Mutee Heads to Musgrave station. Was quite wet and all of our cars and campers were a deep red colour. We had lunch at Bramwell Station in the rain and disposed of our Bananas as there is a checkpoint where they have to be dumped. I gave ours to the roadhouse to make banana cakes. We then ended up at musgrave station for the night. We had tea at musgrave and the men who ordered the $30 stk had nearly half a beast on their plate!!!! Was massive!! Had a nice hot shower and decided to have a cruisy morning the next day. Woke up this morning around 7.30. Most of us had bacon and eggs for breaky. We FINALLY had dry clothes after three days of hanging out in very moist weather. Believe me. When you hand wash you do your best to get them dry and to not let them get musty and smelly!! The boys filled our campers with water and washed our campers and cars down. Got some fuel and headed to Cape Melville. The track in might of been only a couple of hundred k's. but

Day 12

We left our beautiful camp at Punsand Bay and drove to Bamaga and got fuel, water, air and food. We drove another not quite another hour and stopped at a bush camp on the beach at Mutee Heads. Bloody hard to get your hand washing dry as it keeps drizzling on and off!!!! Tropics for you. Would hate to live here in summer. The sweat was teaming off us today. I did a heap of hand washing and it's now drizzling they will smell nice tomorrow after being bundled up wet in ute and then I'll have to re-wash them all over again! We had a snooze, beer and coffee and then nibbles and thought about tea. Tom sick of steak and salad so I made a curry chicken which was quite nice. Had a cold shower from our camper (not worth setting up hot water) and felt refreshed again. Not sure where the road will take us tomorrow. But we are slowly heading east.

Day 10 & 11

Image
Those of you who are astute enough to realise I've skipped a day, I've realised I've numbered two days the same last week. Yesterday Morning Donna Tom and I stayed behind while the others went looking for fresh oysters on the rocks at Somerset Beach but couldn't get there as the water was too deep. They did manage to get a couple of small ones though. They were back at camp by 11.30 and then after some lunch they all went (except for Claire and I) and looked at WWII aircraft wreckages. It was nice to have a quiet day here at camp. We decided to have a camp oven dinner 'Karl's surprise' which the meat ranged from saus, steak and lamb neck chops. Unfortunately the fire failed us and had to be cooked on gas BUT the fire was good enough for 'Yogis syrup dumplings' which were amazing and not a trip without them. Karl, Greg and John went up in helicopter and took some nice shots Yoges had a fish on the rocks, but no luck. Today we were up by 6

Day 7

Image
We left camp around 9 am. After packing up the boys went for another dip in 'Karl's Special Spot' to cool down. Our destination today is Punsand Bay. A few more creek crossings and corrugations. We crossed the Jardine on the Ferry and just fitted with our campers. Drove on and started getting service the closer we got to Bamaga! Phones going ting ting ting with all messages after 4 days out of service. We did a little grocery shopping and continued on to Punsand Bay. Checked in and went for a walk along the beach where 1 bar of service if we are lucky!!! (Or not😜). The sunset was magical. We've decided to go to Tip tomorrow. So up bright and early abc leaving camp by 7 to try and beat the tour buses ect.

Day 8

Up before the sparrows (do not wake the dragon!) and headed off to The Tip. Climbed Mt Everest (looked like it to me. Lol) and on the other side was the little sign that marks the top of Australia! There was a bus of grey nomads that pulled in behind us and I thought if they can do it so can I! Little did I know there was a cheat track along the beach! The view at the top of the hill is amazing. We took the mandatory photos. Then proceeded on the easy track back to car park. Claire, Donna, Tom and I were in front. We came to the last bit of rocks which had green mossy stuff and grey slimy mud on them. Of course what would be a trip without me going over. Arse-over-tit-at-the-tip!! Was hilarious. As I tried to get up my feet kept slipping. I was on all fours trying to get up and slipping and sliding. Claire tried to help in amongst laughing then for her own safety let go and donna just stood back away! 😂😂😂😂. Eventually got up and did the walk along the beach back to cars. We
