our trip

We have had a great trip so far.  The first night we spent at Eulo and experienced our first ever bush camping.  We stayed at friends of Karls and they were really nice.  They put a BBQ on for us.  The next day we got up and travelled towards Camerons Corner.  We had lunch at Thargomindah and camped on the side of the road.
We have only stayed in actual caravan parks for 3 nights - the rest has been bush camping.
Camerons corner consists of a pub and a fence basically.  Tom was very enthralled by the pub ceiling as it had money thumb tacked to it.  There was even a $100note up there.  The kids were also amused by the toilet signs.  Drip dry & Flip dry - guess which is male and female!!!!!!!
The next night we stayed at the Monticolini bore.  It was a lagoon with a little inlet where the hot bore was running into it.  The lagoon was freezing and the little inlet pool was too hot to be in.
We eventually did some washing at Leigh Creek and had showers - OMG never will I take a shower for granted ever again.  - Or a toilet for that matter!!!!!!!
The road into Lake Eyre was 60kms of really bad corrugations!!!!!!  We lost our number plate on that road or on the Oodnadatta track.
Lake Eyre just looks like an ocean.  We decided not to fly over it as the flights were ranging from $250-$450.  So we made lunch and had it there.
We then went onto Dalhousie springs - that is lovely there.  There is another lagoon which is really warm.  After the swim we had a shower.  Unfortunately there was only cold showers.  Absolutely freezing.
We had lunch at Mt Dare and Karl fixed a broken spring there.
The next day we started off for Ayers Rock.  Had a drive through Fink - eye opener (The child care centre has a 6 foot fence with Barbed wire on top of it.  Don't know whether its to keep the kids in - or the locals out)......
At Ayers rock everyone climbed it except Claire and myself.  We went for a walk around it.  I thought the kids did really well.  Tom came down with holes in his pants to his undies from crawling on his bum on the way down.
We had a Pizza at Yalara (Ayers Rock) and it cost $27/pizza.  We then went onto Kings Canyon.

We stayed at Kings Creek Station.  A full working cattle station that they have attached a camping park onto.  Georgia & Tom went for a camel ride which was supposed to take 15mins.  But as the PR people were doing a promotional video it took 3/4hour.  They will be on the Kings Creek Station website - they are very excited.
Unfortunately it was raining for Kings Canyon.  So the colours int he rock  weren't at their best.
After two nights at Kings Creek station we moved on towards Alice Springs.  We stayed on the side of the road in a pocket of private land with National Park all around it.  Our three GPS had shown us that.  Everyone bar Donna and I went for a walk and we then had a visit from National Parks.  They let us off - but we may receive a little letter in the mail on our return.  Thank God Gregs GPS logs all of our stops and our trek.
We arrived in Alice Springs yesterday and Greg and Claire and boys stayed in a cabin after having mice nibble Claire's hair the night before.  They've been camping in a tent the whole time and looked forward to a bed for a night.  We had takeaway for tea (much to the kids excitement)  We have power for the night - so the heaters are on........  woke up to ice on everything.
We are heading towards Boulia and maybe Winton, Jundah, Blackall and home.  We hope to be home by Friday.  See you then.

I've attached a few photos for you all have a look....  See you soon.....
