The Plenty - Boulia

wrapping cutlery drawer in glad wrap to dust proof and stop cutlery ending up everywhere. oopsy daisy! driver was fine Tobermory Station We were packing up on our bush camp this morning on the Arthur Creek when choppers started flying over for their muster. Then we had a visit from John and Marg Speed and their daughter in law for a cup of tea. Was really interesting to talk to them. They weren't having much success in the muster as the cattle were being difficult. He said that in their country on this side of the creek the Gidgea tree sucks up the limestone in the Georgina basin and their leaves become poisonous equivalent to the poison 1080. This only happens in certain times of the year and pRticularly dangerous during drought as the cattle eat the foliage because there is no grass. Luckily they have a bit of grass growing as they've had some rain. We left and called into Tobermorey station and got some fuel. The Speeds also own this ...

Alice springs to The Plenty

Image
We arrived in Alice Springs on Sunday afternoon I'd booked into the Bug 4 Caravan Park so we were lucky to get a site. We all had a beautiful long shower and washed off the Tanami off our bodies and out of our hair. The red dust is EVERYWHERE! We set up Toms laptop, portable speaker and my internet stick and watched the Cook Twins on the grand final of House Rules. It was very cold in Alice and we brought out our water bottles after 2 weeks of beautiful weather. So a bit of a shock to the system. We have a couple who have joined us on our trip as they're travelling companions lost their kitchen on the road coming out of The Bungle Bungles and they didn't want to travel on The Plenty. So we took in our 'strays' and have decided to keep them. Tony and Diane are from the Gold Coast and are going to travel with us all the way home and spend their last night at Karl and Donnas at Jimbour Station. We all had to have tyres replaced/repaired and get some grocer...

Wolfe creek

Image
We travelled to Wolfe Creek on Friday and arrived late fri arvo. Set up camp and visited the crater on Saturday. Saw the shed where the movie was made and stopped and took photos. The crater is the second biggest meteorite crater in the world. Glad I wasn't around when it hit! Hit the track - literally (Tanimi desert track) and have had two days of nothing!!!!! Have arrived in an Aboriginal community and needed fuel $2.90/ltr. Arriving at Alice Springs this afternoon. Catch up on groceries, washing etc. then onto The Plenty Highway towards Birdsville. On the way home now! 😥. Cool weather (nights)!

Bungle bungles

We drove out of El Questro Camp at 7.20am. Filled up with water and headed to the Bungle Bungles. Stopped at Doon Doon for fuel and a toilet stop. Had phone service and touched base with home and Facebook. After turning onto Gibb River road we turned off to the Purnululu Nat park. 56kms of winding horrigations and fine dust. After visiting the information Ctr we booked into the northern campsites. After much deliberation we decided on sites 100 & 101. Drop toilets everywhere and bore water taps. We set up, had some lunch and the others went for a walk while I stayed back. Information said it was fairly rocky and didn't think my ankle would cope. I potted around, did everyone's washing up and read then put tea on for us. The others came back after a beautiful walk with some gorgeous photos. Had tea and we were in bed by 8.

Bungle bungles day two

Got up had breaky and left for a walk to Cathedral Gorge. Wow. Just wow. Karl had strapped my ankle so went as well. Tom was ahead of us and when he got there, there was a lady singing amazing grace. He said it gave him goose bumps. We took lots of photos and then left to do the Domes circuit. So glad we did it in the morning as it was quite hot when we got out of the rocks. We went back to camp via info centre where Karl Donna and Tom organised a helicopter flight for 2pm. Yogi and I will do our in two years time for our planned return trip. Yogi and I stayed back at camp while they did their flight. Yoges had to fix our 2nd battery box in camper as the floor had come away and was half hanging down. Bloody horrigations. When the others came back from their terrific flight it turned out their pilot was from Clifton and another pilot there 'Nigel' is from Kaimkillenbun. They come up for the season ea year. Donsy made curried sausages and rice. Had a warm shower in our camp sho...

El Questro

Durack Boab Tree - they have carved their names in it Durack Tree Brancos lookout The very expensive Homestead Resort           Well we stayed another night and just as well we did because we saved the best till last. I won't be able to put all the photos up, but we went 4wd to 3 lookouts and the views were amazingly out of the world. After 2 black eyes (from the very rocky creek bed tracks) it was certainly worth it. I also took photos of the Durack Boab tree. Its significance, I will find out when I get home. The buildings on the cliff face is the 'exclusive resort up to $5000/night. We a got back to camp and went for a swim. Saw a little baby brown snake in the water. Then I did more hand washing and we all had a relax. Up early tomorrow morning to start out trek to the Bungle Bungles.

El Questro

We are tossing up whether to stay another day or not as there is so much to see and such a beautiful camp. We got up at 7ish and drove to zebedee springs which are hot springs. Heaps of people there. It is only open from 7-12 as the rich and famous from the el Questro resort (which you can only access by helicopter $5000/night) have it exclusively in the afternoon. After a nice dip we then drove onto the el Questro gorge. A very rocky walk in. I decided to stay back at the car as my ankle (from my fall over the border) didn't feel stable enough. Yoges took lots of nice photos and they had another 'invigorating ' dip at the end. (2hr round trip walk) We then drove onto moonshine gorge and just walked the little way into the gorge and had another 'invigorating' swim. There is a 5km round trip walk but we just did the swim and left. Back to camp where we had lunch and a rest. Donsy and I decided to do some hand washing and we may go for a swim this arvo ...
